Short answer: most patients start with an optometrist. Here's the difference.
Dr. Latek works closely with Manhattan's top ophthalmologists in a co-management model: she handles diagnosis, pre-op, and post-op care; the surgeon performs the procedure. You're never bounced between providers without a guide. Here's how that looks in practice:
Dr. Latek: Diagnoses the cataract during routine exam, refers you to a trusted surgeon, and handles all post-op follow-ups.
Surgeon: Performs the outpatient procedure.
Dr. Latek: Determines candidacy with a full corneal workup, refers you to the right surgeon, and co-manages healing.
Surgeon: Performs the laser procedure.
Dr. Latek: Detects the issue (often before symptoms), refers to a retina specialist, and monitors ongoing care in partnership.
Surgeon: Provides specialized retinal treatment.
